Mentoring fiction writers through developing, writing, and revising a novel that makes them proud.

Meet your new editor and book coach, Kallista Ann

I champion the writer’s story while challenging them to sharpen it. By combining editorial feedback and mentorship, I guide authors in building the skills necessary to write a compelling novel and help them think through story problems.

How do I do that?

Services

  • Novel Planning

Where I help authors gain clarity about the story they’re trying to tell. Together, we explore possibilities, evaluate different directions the story can take, and shape the idea into a working outline so they can write forward with confidence.

  • Writing the First Draft

Where I help authors gain clarity on how to execute their story, scene by scene. Through feedback and discussion, authors will write their first draft while learning what makes a scene work, how to evaluate their own writing, and how to solve problems as they arise.

  • Revising A Novel

Where I help authors gain clarity about what their manuscript needs next. Together, we uncover the root cause behind their novel’s problems so they can revise with purpose instead of guessing. They’ll leave knowing what needs revising, why it matters, and how to approach it.

No matter what stage of writing they’re at, I can help them gain the clarity and confidence to make strong story decisions.

In fact, do you identify with any of these problems?

You have lots of ideas, but you’re stuck on how to move forward.

You see so many different directions your plot can go in, but you have no idea which one is the ‘right’ one.

You’re stuck solving the same problems over and over again to the point where you don’t know if the story is actually getting better or if you’re just moving things around.

You can spot issues in your story, but you don’t know if they’re real or if you’re overthinking it.

The story feels off, but you don’t know how to fix it.

Beta readers, critique partners, and writing groups are all giving contradictory advice, and you have no idea whose voice to listen to.

All of that builds up to the feeling of being lost at sea.

What if I could help you gain the confidence to know what your story needs and why?

How do I know how to solve that problem?

I’m certified through two intense training problems.

Author Accelerator’s Book Coaching Certification - where I spent time honing in on how to help writers develop their ideas, work through mental blocks, and build a story they’re proud of.

Story Grid’s Editor Training Certification, where I spent two years developing both the skills to pinpoint the root of story problems and to teach authors how to write.

But what do I really do?

I build a fun, collaborative environment with writers so they feel safe exploring their story.

I jump into the trenches with authors and help them think through problems.

I turn confusion into clarity

I help writers develop discernment

I help authors move forward with confidence

My job isn’t to give you feedback and send you on your way. My job is to help you build the skills necessary to develop, write, and edit every novel in your future.

Are my services right for you?

These services are dedicated to ending the cycle of confusion and guiding authors into understanding what decisions are right for their story.

Say hello to clarity.

“Kallista provided me with priceless feedback on my YA Post-Apocalyptic manuscript. The editorial letter she wrote highlighted issues I was completely blind to despite having had many beta readers for the project. I didn't waste a second implementing her feedback, which uncovered potential in my manuscript I wasn't even aware of. If you ever have doubts about your work, but are unable to identify the issues, I would highly recommend you reach out to Kallista.”
